Tin Star by Cecil Castellucci ~ Review by Fallon

4 Out of 5 Stars

Author Description:

On their way to start a new life, Tula and her family travel on the Prairie Rose, a colony ship headed to a planet in the outer reaches of the galaxy. All is going well until the ship makes a stop at a remote space station, the Yertina Feray, and the colonist's leader, Brother Blue, beats Tula within an inch of her life. An alien, Heckleck, saves her and teaches her the ways of life on the space station.

When three humans crash land onto the station, Tula's desire for escape becomes irresistible, and her desire for companionship becomes unavoidable. But just as Tula begins to concoct a plan to get off the space station and kill Brother Blue, everything goes awry, and suddenly romance is the farthest thing from her mind.

Fallon's Review:

I read an ARC of this book courtesy of the publisher. Tula is Traveling to a new planet with her sister and mother. Before they can reach their new home they make a stop at a station called the Yertina Feray. Tula is smart but she has one downfall she is curious and questions her leader Brother Blue. Brother Blue beats her and leaves her for dead. Tula forms a bond with an alien named Heckleck who helps her and teaches Tula how to survive on the Yertina Feray. Tula learns how to survive but when 3 humans arrive she sees them as alien. They might be the ticket to getting her revenge on Brother Blue though.

This is a hard book to rate. I did not like this book at all in the beginning. I felt it jumped in to quick and did not have enough in the beginning to keep you wanting more. However by the end I was glued and now can not wait for the second book. Tula is a strong female lead which I enjoy. My favorite 2 characters however were supporting characters. I liked Heckleck and Tournour. Heckleck is so savvy and smart. Tournour is a mystery and you want to figure him out. This book is a good book to read. I can say do not put it down half way through thinking it will not pick up cause it does. I am giving this book 4 out of 5 stars.
