Talon is scheduled to be released Oct. 28, 2014

5 Out of 5 Stars

Author Description:

Long ago, dragons were hunted to near extinction by the Order of St. George, a legendary society of dragon slayers. Hiding in human form and growing their numbers in secret, the dragons of Talon have become strong and cunning, and they're positioned to take over the world with humans none the wiser.

Ember and Dante Hill are the only sister and brother known to dragonkind. Trained to infiltrate society, Ember wants to live the teen experience and enjoy a summer of freedom before taking her destined place in Talon. But destiny is a matter of perspective, and a rogue dragon will soon challenge everything Ember has been taught. As Ember struggles to accept her future, she and her brother are hunted by the Order of St. George.

Soldier Garret Xavier Sebastian has a mission to seek and destroy all dragons, and Talon's newest recruits in particular. But he cannot kill unless he is certain he has found his prey: and nothing is certain about Ember Hill. Faced with Ember's bravery, confidence and all-too-human desires, Garret begins to question everything that the Order has ingrained in him: and what he might be willing to give up to find the truth about dragons.

Fallon's Review:

I received an ARC of Talon by Julie Kagawa from a Blogger Friend. Thank you Brooke from http://www.thecovercontessa.com/ She grabbed me a copy at BEA and thanks to her I was able to read and feature Talon for our Dragon Month.

Talon starts off from 2 POV's. 1st there is Ember a fiery girl who has to simulate in with humans to protect her race. Then there is Garret a soldier who is fighting a war against the monsters who want to take over. Both believe in their causes with their hole hearts. Both realize very early on just because you are told something does not make it true.

Ember just wants to find adventure and to be free. I instantly fell in love with Ember's character. Ember has found that surfing is the closest thing to flying that she can safely experience. Ember finds the biggest, highest waves to tackle just for that moment rush. She has been told that Dragons do not have the same emotions that humans have. Ember starts to be torn because she is building strong bonds with friends. Ember starts to feel other emotions she was led to believe never were suppose to exist for her.

Garret has a new assignment find the new simulated hatchlings and take them down. Garret has always been a soldier first. At 17 he has never had to go make friends with kids his own age. Garret has never lived a normal life. With his new assignment he finds his priorities changing and the soldier slipping. Garret soon finds that he is slowly letting down his guard and relaxing and feeling what it is to be a normal boy.

The second half of this BOOK picks up and races you to the end wanting more, I can not wait for book 2. The fighting scenes were just visually amazing. I loved the message Julie told with this story. Sometimes following your heart is more right then following others blindly. This is a must read and I am giving this book 5 out of 5 stars.

  2. I loved her original fae series, so this is definitely on my list. More modern seems like a win to me.

  3. I've never read any of her books. This one looks really good. I've read the Firelight series and a few of the books from Eragon. I like dragon stories :)
