Storm Siren (Storm Siren #1) by Mary Weber ~ Review by Fallon
5 Out of 5 Stars
“I raise my chin as the buyers stare. Yes. Look. You don’t want me. Because, eventually, accidentally, I will destroy you.”
In a world at war, a slave girl’s lethal curse could become one kingdom’s weapon of salvation. If the curse—and the girl—can be controlled.
As a slave in the war-weary kingdom of Faelen, seventeen-year-old Nym isn’t merely devoid of rights, her Elemental kind are only born male and always killed at birth — meaning, she shouldn’t even exist.
Standing on the auction block beneath smoke-drenched mountains, Nym faces her fifteenth sell. But when her hood is removed and her storm-summoning killing curse revealed, Nym is snatched up by a court advisor and given a choice: be trained as the weapon Faelen needs to win the war, or be killed.
Choosing the former, Nym is unleashed into a world of politics, bizarre parties, and rumors of an evil more sinister than she’s being prepared to fight . . . not to mention the handsome trainer whose dark secrets lie behind a mysterious ability to calm every lightning strike she summons.
But what if she doesn’t want to be the weapon they’ve all been waiting for?
Set in a beautifully eclectic world of suspicion, super abilities, and monsters, Storm Siren is a story of power. And whoever controls that power will win.
I won this from goodreads courtesy of the publisher for a fair and honest review.
Storm Siren by Mary Weber starts off with Nym this beautiful girl with pale skin and blue eyes. The thing that makes her different and dangerous is her white hair. A sign of her elemental ability. Except women are not suppose to be born with elemental powers.
Nym is an orphan who has been sold in to slavery except every home she goes to something bad happens and she ends up for auction all over again. Up for auction again Nym finds her emotions getting the best of her and soon her elemental ability taking control. A women looks on and decides to take Nym in and have her trained. She will
help win the war in their kingdoms favor.
Nym is drawn to her dark and mysterious trainer except bad things happen to any women who gets to close to the handsome Eogan. Jealousy is a vicious trait that her owner possess when it comes to Eogan. She threatens Nym's life and all of the friends she has come to find at her new home. She must resist him or pay the consequences.
I was so drawn to Nym's self discovery in Storm Siren. This was the best elemental story I have read so far. As a twin myself I loved the way the dynamics of the relationships whether fraternal or identical were spot on. This story broke my heart and left me clinging to hope up till the very end. If you are looking for an intense spell binding read that will keep you up all hours of the night this book is a must read for you. I am giving this book 5 out of 5 stars. I need book 2!
