#Giveaway Celebrate The Ending Series by @LinsFairleigh & @LindseyRPogue

5 Out of 5 Stars

Fallon's Review:

After The Ending was Amazing. (This review is not as detailed because the book starts off right away and I do not want to spoil key moments.) I was glued from the very beginning. Literally by page 20 you are already so invested. This story is from 2 POV's Dani and Zoe and they are best friends. I have to say I preferred Dani for the first part of the book but then I got into Zoe's story and loved them both.

This book had so many great aspects. Disease is taking over and 85% of the population is dying or passed on from the disease. This world brings some survivors closer together and others are harder to trust. Do you stay together or go it alone?

I am in love with this book I can not even express it in enough words. It had romance, action, humor and moments of absolute horror. I was swooning over Zoe's brother Jason. I can not wait for Into The Fire. If you have been looking for a great read that you will not want to put down, this is your book! I am giving this 5 out of 5 stars. This book is one of my favorites books off all time.

5 Out of 5 Stars

Fallon's Review:

Into The Fire started off with a new character and a new twist to the plot. Everything you thought you knew and the lost that was experienced in After The Ending changes in Into The Fire. I could not put this book down. Zoe and Dani are separated once again. Jason is devastated and on the war path to get Dani back. The only problem is war lives are lost.

Who is the Mystery Guy tat has been in Dani's dreams? Well MG gets a name and a huge part in this second book. t can not tell you how many twists this book had. Not everything is as it seems. The most scary abilities seem to be the ones that can control the minds of those around them and seem to be the most abused. How do you defeat someone that can control your every whim.

I can not even describe how much I love this series. Jason's love and protective nature over Dani is so swoon worthy. Also we finally get Jake and Zoe to admit to what is going on between them. I was dying after the cliffhanger ending in After The Ending and had to pick this up right after. This book will have you reading all through the night. The world building in this book and the fact that the Authors continually intrigue and surprise is so addicting. This is a must read series and I only wish I had read these sooner. This is a 5 out of 5 star book.

#Giveaway WhipEye by (Geoffrey C. Saign) @geoffreysaign ~ Review by Fallon

4 Out of 5 Stars

Author Description:

Samantha and her neighbor, Jake, have no idea that Samantha’s best friend, a parrot named Charlie, is a thousand years old. Charlie is also at the center of a secret battle between an ancient, evil man’s monsters and magical creatures. When Charlie asks Samantha and Jake to protect him, they are chased by monsters from both sides. To save Charlie, and two worlds, Samantha and Jake have twenty-four hours to figure out how to use the supernatural staff, WhipEye, and find the courage to confront what they fear most…

Fallon's Review

WhipEye starts off at a very fast pace and keeps you going from beginning till end. Sam is a girl who is in love with animals. She is a walking animal thesaurus so to speak. She loves visiting Charlie a talking Parrot and rescues him from living in a cage for the rest of his life. Little did she know that by rescuing Charlie a whole mess of events bigger then the world we know would unravel. The Store owner Magnar is an evil man seeking power and wanting Charlie just for that purpose.

Jake is a boy that comes to Sam's house to hang out with her dad and see the animals they rescue. Sam does not want Jake around and has closed herself off to people since the loss of her mother. Jake understands loss since his father walked out on him and his mom and tries to get Sam to open up to him. For a middle grade book this book had so many layers. The fantasy element and world kicks off from the moment Charlie is taken. Sam is on the run and soon Jake finds himself along on the run. They have 24 hours to keep Charlie from Magnar.

Geoffrey C. Saign takes his knowledge of wildlife and infuses it in this captivating fantasy novel. I loved the fact that anyone who reads this not only is taken on a journey but they walk away knowing more then when they started. The world building was very detailed and kept you wanting more. I would definitely recommend this for middle grade student. I am giving this 4 out of 5 stars.

About the Book

Title: THE WALLED CITY
Author: Ryan Graudin
Pub. Date: November 4, 2014
Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
Formats: Hardcover, eBook
Pages: 448

5 Out of 5 Stars

Author Description:

There are three rules in the Walled City: Run fast. Trust no one. Always carry your knife. Right now, my life depends completely on the first. Run, run, run.

Jin, Mei Yee, and Dai all live in the Walled City, a lawless labyrinth run by crime lords and overrun by street gangs. Teens there run drugs or work in brothels—or, like Jin, hide under the radar. But when Dai offers Jin a chance to find her lost sister, Mei Yee, she begins a breathtaking race against the clock to escape the Walled City itself.

Fallon's Review:

The Walled City had three rotating POV's first we have Dai who is a rich kid who is stuck in The Walled City for the mistakes made in his past. He would give anything to be outside of those walls. He has to find a runner to help him bring down the city to earn his freedom. Dai came off determined and closed off , yet a charmer at other times. His past of being on the wrong side of the tracks and not listening when it might have changed his entire world. Has made him all the more determined in stopping the people praying on the weak inside the city.

Jin was my favorite character. She is a girl hiding inside The Walled City as a boy. Girls come off weak and are easy prey. Jin was devastated the day her sister was sold to The Walled City. Determined to find her and rescue her Jin has lived on the streets of the city for 2 years. She soon meets Dai who wants to recruit this fast on her toes thief. Jin hopes he will be the answer to finding her sister.

Mei Yee was taken and now lives in the brothel her parents sold her to. With her beauty she becomes exclusive to the very powerful ambassador who is determined to win her heart and keep her his. Mei Yee has been trapped for 2 years inside the city never seeing the outside. Sometimes she thinks that at least her situation is not as bad as the other girls and at least the ambassador is kind. Mei Yee soon learns how men can be when their dolls actually learn to have a voice.

The Walled City by Ryan Graudin took a real place with a very real and scary background and weaved it into a piece of fiction that is emotionally thought provoking. I loved the dynamics and world building that this story brought. The fact that we got Jin's story and heartbreak for a sister who was taken from her and sold. Mei Yee a girl who thought that the value of a dollar was worth more then the love of her family. Dai a boy who became lost in the grief  and regret of his past finds something in Mei Yee and Jin  and most of all himself worth living for. This book while reading it reminded me of the emotional depth of Memoirs of a Geisha. I will say with the subject matter that this book might be for an older teen. I loved this book and cried up till the end. I am giving this book a 5 out of 5 stars and this is a must read.

Into The Fire (The Ending #2) by @LindsFairleigh & @LindseyRPogue ~ Review by Fallon

5 Out of 5 Stars

Author Description:

The Virus changed them, but that was only the beginning…
…death…mutation…insanity…corruption…terror…
…all that remains is hope.

In the wake of destruction left behind by the Virus, it took Dani and Zoe months to find each other. But their reunion was short-lived. Dani has been taken, and though little distance separates them, they might as well be worlds apart.

From the moment she hears Dani’s scream, Zoe’s only goal is to save her best friend. She and her companions scramble to come up with a rescue plan, but when a ghost from Jake’s past reappears, lines are blurred, decisions become harder, and secrets are revealed…and some secrets are best left buried. To keep heartache and fear from consuming her, Zoe must cling to her determination. She WILL see Dani again.

Dani awakens inside the final hold-out of civilization: the Colony. Remnants of the former world surround her—electricity, safety, social order—but all is not what it seems. As she faces her most manipulative adversary yet, she loses sight of who she is and who she can trust. Friends become enemies, enemies become allies, and allies will betray her. Dani will have to decide what she’s willing to do and whose lives she’s willing to risk if she is to have any chance of breaking free.

After The Ending by @LindseyFairleigh & @LindseyRPogue ~ Review by Fallon

5 Out of 5 Stars

Author Description:

THE FIRST BOOK IN THE EMOTIONALLY CHARGED POST-APOCALYPTIC ROMANCE SERIES, The Ending.

The Virus spread. Billions died. The Ending began. We may have survived the apocalypse, but the Virus changed us.

When people started getting sick, “they” thought it was just the flu. My roommate, my boyfriend, my family…they’re all gone now. I got sick too. I should have died with them—with the rest of the world—but I didn’t. I thought witnessing the human population almost disappear off the face of the earth was the craziest thing I’d ever experience. I was so wrong. My name is Dani O’Connor, and I survived The Ending.

The Virus changed everything. The world I knew is gone, and life is backwards. We’ve all had to start over. I’ve been stripped of my home, my dreams…all that is me. I’m someone else now—broken and changed. Other survivors’ memories and emotions haunt me. They invade my mind until I can no longer separate them from my own. I won’t let them consume me. I can’t. My name is Zoe Cartwright, and I survived The Ending.

We’ve been inseparable for most of our lives, and now our friendship is all we have left. The aftermath of the Virus has stranded us on opposite sides of the United States. Trusting strangers, making sacrifices, killing—we’ll do anything to reach one another. Fear and pain may be unavoidable, but we’re strong…we’re survivors. But to continue surviving in this unfamiliar world plagued by Crazies and strange new abilities, we have to adapt. We have to evolve.

And more than anything, we have to find each other.

This book is NA and not YA

Fallon's Review:

This book starts off with an emotional opening that makes you think about humanity and what makes us weak and what makes us strong.

Evan Walker risked everything giving Cassie and the others a chance to change the outcome. What will this band of kids do with the chance they have? Ben is hurt and needs to have time to heal. In a apocalyptic world time can kill. Like Rick says in the book "The world is a clock winding down. There are no such things as uneventful minutes anymore." (Infinite Sea) The group is held up in a hotel and trying to figure out there next move. Ringer heads out to scout for there departure and soon Teacup follows.

One of my favorite POV's had to be from Poundcake the mute who never talks. Hearing his back story and seeing how he gets his nickname. I never knew I wanted his story but it was like Rick Yancey knew we needed it and we did. The 5th Wave was mostly Cassie and Ben's POV but in Infinite Sea we do not get anything from Ben's POV and Cassie's POV is very minimal. That was ok we get Ringers POV from the start and I loved getting to know Ringer. She has always appeared to be emotional cut off but getting the breakdown of who she was and who she is and who she will become was my favorite part.

This book was emotional and raw. Rick Yancey does not hold back in saying what needs to be said. There are parts I cried and unlike most writers Rick lets you experience the true nature of people and he does not sugar coat what this world would be like. People die and things get ugly and that is sad but it is what you do in those moments that will either keep you alive or make you join the ones already lost. I can not wait for book 3 in this series. This is a must read. I am giving this 5 out of 5 stars.

Review:

The  Young Elites is amazing, I loved this book! It had some great twists and turns that were unexpected and left me breathless! I love Marie's writing style and this darker book was fantastic!!!

Adelina is a girl you can connect with and feel for through the story. Adelina goes through so much in her past with her dad's constant abuse, she is told by her father that her true nature is something dark and evil, and that she will prove it to everyone.

Adelina struggles through out the story wondering if she is the things she has been told or that people fear she is. She fears she will not find goodness in her self or be able to control her feelings.

Then we meet Enzo he is the first to see Adelina's potential and want to give her a chance. I have to say I love Enzo! He is a little dark with a hard edge to him, and has a fire ability, what is not to like? The other Dagger members warn Enzo to be careful of Adelina, that she may not be trustworthy, but Enzo sees something in her and is drawn to her.

Adelina's sister has been captured and she has to decide if she will risk her new friendships and a new home to save her. There is so many surprises and heartbreak for Adelina in this book, but this is so worth reading and one of the best reads of 2014!!!

I definitely did not see some of the twists coming in this book! I cannot wait for book 2, I hope that we get some more twists in that book too!!!

Marie Lu Interview on The Young Elites Tour stop at B & L Books in Orlando, FL ~ by Fallon

We were so excited to get some time to talk with Marie Lu before her scheduled signing for The Young Elites Tour at B & L Books. We were both having a fangirl moment. Marie was so adorable and sweet. We enjoyed talking books with her. Check out our interview to find out what is on the horizon, who inspired her and what her favorite book this year has been.

Interview with Marie Lu by Seeing Double

Seeing Double: Are you working on anything new?

Marie: I am working on the sequel for The Young Elites.

Seeing Double: When can I expect to get the sequel for The Young Elites? I need more Enzo now!!!

Marie: Next Fall is when the sequel is set to be  released. I just handed in my first draft of the sequel of The Young Elites.

Seeing Double: I am excited about your short stories that are coming out in anthologies, are they original stories or based off  another series?

Marie: They are originals, one is a horror, and the other a historical.
Here are the links to the new Anthologies:

Seeing Double: How did you like doing a children's book?

Marie: I am done doing the children's book, I was nervous doing it because it was the first time doing a children's book.

Seeing Double: Did you do the art for the Legend graphic novel?

Marie: No, Penguin got someone to do it.

Seeing Double: You are a great artist we have seen your art!

Marie: Thank you! I don't think I could do a graphic novel from beginning to end.

Seeing Double: Did you go to art school?

Marie: No, I have been drawing since I was a kid.

Seeing Double: In the sequel for The Young Elites will you have most of the original characters or will it be a lot of new characters?

Marie: Most of the original characters and a few new characters.

Seeing Double: Have you thought of doing an adult book?

Marie: I don't know if I have the right voice for it. I thought I was writing adult my whole life and it ended up I was writing young-adult.

Seeing Double: Do you have any siblings, and is that what maybe inspires you to write the family dynamics that are in both of your series?

Marie: No, I have no siblings. Maybe that is why I add the sibling dynamics into my series.

Seeing Double: Since I read that The Young Elites was inspired off of Assassins Creed, so you play it?

Marie: Yes

Seeing Double: Did you take inspiration from the brotherhood, and which one did you base it off of?

Marie: I based The Young Elites off of Assassins Creed II.

Seeing Double: What besides your book has been  your favorite book this year?

Marie: An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. I missed a flight reading that book, it was that good! I am loving all these fantasy books coming out.

Seeing Double: Who was your inspiration for your writing when you were growing up?

Marie: Brian Jaques, got me into reading and writing fantasy.

We want to thank the amazing and very kind Marie Lu for giving us such a great interview and letting us totally fan girl! She was so sweet, anyone who helped with the event she drew her amazing artwork on their books!!! Thank you again Marie!

After, Marie Lu did amazing art on our books. They are so beautiful we had to share.
