Yallfest Interviews Scott Westerfeld and Marie Lu / Huge signed box of books #Giveaway #International

Interview with Scott Westerfeld at Yallfest

1) What Inspired the Uglies series? (it is such a girl driven series)

A friend from New York moved to LA and went to the dentist. The dentist said they needed new teeth and gave a 5 year plan. Saying where were his teeth going to be in 5 years. That got me thinking about plastic surgery and the aspect of trying to make someone perfect.

2) Do you like writing in one specific genre or do you like mixing it up since most of your books have a wide range?

I like doing different things. If I were to write the same thing I would get bored.

3) I know you did Power Puff Girls book for Middle Grade, so are you planning to do any more middle grade books?

Yes, I have a project I am working on right now but details are still under wraps.

4) What is your next up and coming project?

I have a superhero Young Adult project but that is all I can say since the rest is still under wraps.

5) You said you are working with another Author on an upcoming book so, do you prefer collaborating?

Yes, I like it because it is more social and goes through more edits when it goes back and forth.

6) Will you do any Adult books?

No I do not plan to at this time

Thank you for taking the time out to talk to us on your busy schedule at Yallfest! We look forward to seeing you again next year!

Scott Westerfeld and Fallon and YES I was fangirling A LOT!!!

Interview with Marie Lu at Yallfest

1) I know that you have many hobbies, you like to do photography and you have worked on games for Disney in the past. Do you think that all of these hobbies help you with your writing?

I like doing different things. Having these other hobbies helps with my creativity when it comes to my writing and it definitely helps inspire my writing.

2) I know that you had mentioned in our past interview that The Young Elites was inspired by Assassins Creed the video game and that you do play it. What is your favorite video game since you are such a gamer?

I really love the video game Journey but it is only available to play on Playstation 3 and not on Xbox.

3) I know you have been touring now for a little while is hard being a way from your family?

Yes, at times I miss my husband when I am away traveling.

4) What has been your favorite stop on tour?

I love all the stops but I had never been to Canada so I really enjoyed that.

Thank you for taking the time out to talk to us on your busy schedule at Yallfest! We look forward to seeing you again for your next tour!

We got to Interview Marie Lu for follow up questions and take pics with her. She is so adorable and sweet!

The Bitter Kingdom (Fire and Thorns #3) by Rae Carson ~ Review by Fallon

5 Out of 5 Stars

Author Description:

The champion must not waver.
The champion must not fear.
The gate of darkness closes.

Elisa is a fugitive.

Her enemies have stolen the man she loves, and they await her at the gate of darkness. Her country is on the brink of civil war, with her own soldiers ordered to kill her on sight.

Her Royal Majesty, Queen Lucero-Elisa né Riqueza de Vega, bearer of the Godstone, will lead her three loyal companions deep into the enemy's kingdom, a land of ice and snow and brutal magic, to rescue Hector and win back her throne. Her power grows with every step, and the shocking secrets she will uncover on this, her final journey, could change the course of history.

But that is not all. She has a larger destiny. She must become the champion the world has been waiting for.

Even of those who hate her most.

Fallon's Review:

In a war that has gone on for so long, can one person change the hatred built up over centuries? Hector has been captured and Elisa will risk it all to bring him back. She will venture through the cold into enemy territory to save Hector and find a solution to bring peace to her lands.

This is an adventure that involves more danger then anyone thought they would face. Elisa and her friends find courage beyond what they thought possible in the face of danger and horror before them. Trust will be tested and will love prevail.

Elisa has become a powerful ruler and at times finds that power is relying on the ones you love and can trust the most. Her strength has never been her power and always her mind. Will the kingdom find it's peace?

This was everything  I expected and more. Rae Carson created another layer of world building in the area behind enemy lines. I felt the chill deep in my bones while reading about the dense cold in the trip from and to Invierne. The Bitter Kingdom lived up to my expectations and more! 5 Out of 5 Stars

The Crown of Embers (Fire and Thorns #2) by Rae Carson ~ Review by Fallon

5 Out of 5 Stars

Author Description:

She does not know what awaits her at the enemy's gate.

Elisa is a hero.

She led her people to victory over a terrifying, sorcerous army. Her place as the country's ruler should be secure. But it isn't.

Her enemies come at her like ghosts in a dream, from foreign realms and even from within her own court. And her destiny as the chosen one has not yet been fulfilled.

To conquer the power she bears, once and for all, Elisa must follow a trial of long-forgotten—and forbidden—clues, from the deep, hidden catacombs of her own city to the treacherous seas. With her go a one-eyed spy, a traitor, and the man whom—despite everything—she is falling in love with.

If she's lucky, she will return from this journey. But there will be a cost.

Fallon's Review:

I am so happy I picked up The Crown of Embers after a blogger friend told me you have to finish this series. I could not put it down. I felt like Elisa's story was done and she had lost everything after The Girl of Fire and Thorns and I am so happy that I read this and was proven wrong. Rae Carson's writing is so gripping and unique. She builds this unique fantasy world that challenges greats like Lord of The Rings.

Elisa is strong in so many ways but she can not seem to find the strength to follow her own heart. Unsure if a Queen really is ever allowed to follow her heart in matters of love. She is forced into trying to marry to form an alliance for the benefit of her country. Some who are close are seeking to plot against her and steel her throne.  So she sets out in secret to find a way to secure her place on the throne.

This is a fantastic story of discovering love even if you were not searching. Rae Carson painted a beautiful world for us to get lost in. The world building is so visually remarkable I feel I have  every aspect of this kingdom and beyond imprinted in my mind. If you love a great fantasy novel then this book is for you. I am giving this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Her Dark Curiosity (The Madman's Daughter #2) by Megan Shepherd ~ Review by Fallon

5 Out of 5 Stars

Author Description:

To defeat the darkness, she must first embrace it.

Months have passed since Juliet Moreau returned to civilization after escaping her father's island—and the secrets she left behind. Now, back in London once more, she is rebuilding the life she once knew and trying to forget Dr. Moreau’s horrific legacy—though someone, or something, hasn’t forgotten her.

As people close to Juliet fall victim one by one to a murderer who leaves a macabre calling card of three clawlike slashes, Juliet fears one of her father’s creations may have also escaped the island. She is determined to find the killer before Scotland Yard does, though it means awakening sides of herself she had thought long banished, and facing loves from her past she never expected to see again.

As Juliet strives to stop a killer while searching for a serum to cure her own worsening illness, she finds herself once more in the midst of a world of scandal and danger. Her heart torn in two, past bubbling to the surface, life threatened by an obsessive killer—Juliet will be lucky to escape alive.

With inspiration from Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, this is a tantalizing mystery about the hidden natures of those we love and how far we’ll go to save them from themselves.

Fallon's Review:

Juliet has returned to society and finds it odd to be accepted once more among piers she was shunned by. Juliet's best friend Lucy is still the supportive rock she has always been. Lucy is excited to have her friend able to be with her in society. Juliet still feels awkward and tries to push her dark tendencies down hoping for them not to surface.

People start to turn up murdered all around London and the common factor is they all had wronged Juliet in some way. They also have three slashes a mark she is all to familiar with. How does anyone know her past and all the details of the moments of being wronged in the past.

Her Dark Curiosity was so much darker then Madman's Daughter and I loved that. I was taken into Juliet's dark mind of struggles against her own very nature. While this was inspired by The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde it stood out as amazing and unique all on it's own. Edward is a piece of the dark you will yearn for. He may have dark tendencies but his love, protection and strength are something Juliet needs. Montgomery pushed her away and now her heart needs a man that would not let go so easily.

You will not see the end coming and I can not wait to read A Cold Legacy. Megan Shepherd's writing just gets better with each book. This is unlike anything I have read and stands out as a must read! I am giving this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Blog Tour: Lifer by Beck Nicholas with #Giveaway ~ Review by Fallon

Lifer by Beck Nicholas

December 16th 2014 by Month9Books

(Giveaway at bottom of post)

5 Out of 5 Stars

Author Description:

Asher is a Lifer, a slave aboard the spaceship Pelican. A member of the lowest rung of society, she must serve the ship’s Officials and Astronauts as punishment for her grandparents’ crimes back on Earth. The one thing that made life bearable was her illicit relationship with Samuai, a Fishie boy, but he died alongside her brother in a freak training accident.

Still grieving for the loss of her loved ones, Asher is summoned to the upper levels to wait on Lady, the head Official’s wife and Samuai’s mother. It is the perfect opportunity to gather intel for the Lifer’s brewing rebellion. There’s just one problem—the last girl who went to the upper levels never came back.

On the other side of the universe, an alien attack has left Earth in shambles and a group called The Company has taken control. Blank wakes up in a pond completely naked and with no memory, not even his real name. So when a hot girl named Megs invites him to a black-market gaming warehouse where winning means information, he doesn’t think twice about playing. But sometimes the past is better left buried.

As Asher and Blank’s worlds collide, the truth comes out—everyone has been lied to. Bourne Identity meets Under the Never Sky in this intergalactic tale of love and deception from debut novelist Beck Nicholas.

Fallon's Review:

Thank you so much Month9Books for sending me an e-arc for review. I do not like reading e-copies but once I started Lifer I could not put it down.

Lifer has two POV's one is Asher and I have to say I loved this POV and the other took longer to love but once I did I fell hard. Asher is devastated from the loss of her boyfriend a upper class. Reminded of Samuai regularly since becoming employed by his grieving mother, Asher is to stay in Samuai's room while employed. Davyd is Samuai's younger brother and really knows how to get under Asher's skin. He pushes her at every turn and you can cut the tension with a knife between these two. I have not read such chemistry since the Shatter Me series.

Blank has no memory of who he is so what a fitting name. He wakes up with a dead body laying beside him. Not knowing anything about the world he finds himself in and who to trust he finds himself in some interesting predicaments. He soon meets a spitfire named Meg who is instantly attracted to. These two stories will weave and then collide. You will find yourself wanting one thing to happen and then decide something completely different might be better.

I am still crushing on Davyd hardcore and I read this months ago. I love the concept of Lifer and am so excited that the story will continue. All these characters have their own struggles and battles that can not fit into just one book. This is a must great read!

I always wanted to write.  I’ve worked as a lab assistant, a pizza delivery driver and a high school teacher but I always pursued my first dream of creating stories. Now, I live with my family near Adelaide, halfway between the city and the sea, and am lucky to spend my days (and nights) writing young adult fiction.

ARC Review Ignite (Defy #2) by Sara B. Larson ~ Review by Fallon

5 Out of 5 Stars

Author Description:

Murder, abductions, and forbidden romance abound in this thrilling sequel to Sara B. Larson's acclaimed YA debut, DEFY.

Alexa remains by the newly crowned King Damian’s side as his guard, ever committed to helping him rebuild Antion and reclaim the hope of Antion's people, despite continuing to harbor a secret love for him. However, when another threat to Damian and his kingdom emerges, and blame is cast on their newly forged allies from Blevon, Alexa knows things are not what they seem. With the fate of her nation hanging in the balance once again, will Alexa be able to protect her king and uncover the true enemy -- before it's too late?

Fallon's Review:

Thank you Scholastic for an ARC of Ignite for a fair and honest review.

Ignite starts off right where defy left off. Alexa is still remaining by Damian even though every day feels like torture. Longing for him but knowing he deserves a girl fit to be his Queen. Damian is confused and hurt from the distance Alexa has put between them. He is determined to prove himself to her. Rylan is still holding on to the hope that if enough time passes Alexa might be ready to open her heart to him. When Alexa saved her kingdom and brought down the enemy word spread and now Alexa is desired by the enemy for their own gain.

Ignite was fast paced and their were OMG SHUT UP moments!!! I literally said this out loud. This is swoon worthy romantic and heart pounding tale. You feel for Alexa and all the moments of triumph and disappointment. She is a girl that is fierce but still yearns to be loved. Sara B. Larson had me glued because just when you think you can set this down at the next chapter something will happen to keep you wanting more. This is a must read! I am giving this 5 out of 5 Stars and a read you will enjoy over and over again.
