Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass #2) by Sarah J. Maas ~ Review by Fallon

4 Out of 5 Stars

Author Description:

An assassin’s loyalties are always in doubt.
But her heart never wavers.

After a year of hard labor in the Salt Mines of Endovier, eighteen-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien has won the king's contest to become the new royal assassin. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown – a secret she hides from even her most intimate confidantes.

Keeping up the deadly charade—while pretending to do the king's bidding—will test her in frightening new ways, especially when she's given a task that could jeopardize everything she's come to care for. And there are far more dangerous forces gathering on the horizon -- forces that threaten to destroy her entire world, and will surely force Celaena to make a choice.

Where do the assassin’s loyalties lie, and who is she most willing to fight for?

Fallon's Review:

Crown of Midnight starts right where Throne of Glass ended.  Celaena is the king's personal assassin. So many secrets are kept in these castle walls. The prince and her become more and more distant while a certain guard slowly warms her heart. In a world where secrets are kept and friendships and trust are hard to build, Celaena finds herself building attachments which can have deadly and emotional consequences.

This is another action packed fantasy novel by Sarah J. Mass that will keep you glued to every turn and then wanting more. Celaena is the strongest heroine I have ever read. Crown of Midnight was more raw and action packed the Throne of Glass. I would compare it to Game of Thrones for YA. We get to uncover more behind who Celaena is.

Each path Celaena takes is a step of strength and every page you read you feel a fierce fire burning inside. Some of the most endearing moments are the moments she opens her heart. Then when the unexpected happens your heart is torn apart as well. This is the reason we love Sarah's writing and worlds she builds. I am giving Crown of Midnight 4 out of 5 Stars.
