Goodreads Description:

A refreshingly original contemporary YA, unlike anything readers have seen before. Perfect for fans of Jandy Nelson, John Corey Whaley, and Libba Bray.

She had a plan. It went south.

Harper is a dancer. She and her best friend, Kate, have one goal: becoming professional ballerinas. And Harper won’t let anything—or anyone—get in the way of The Plan, not even the boy she and Kate are both drawn to.

Harper is a Scott. She’s related to Robert Falcon Scott, the explorer who died racing to the South Pole. So when Harper’s life takes an unexpected turn, she finagles (read: lies) her way to the icy dark of McMurdo Station . . . in Antarctica. Extreme, but somehow fitting—apparently she has always been in the dark, dancing on ice this whole time. And no one warned her. Not her family, not her best friend, not even the boy who has somehow found a way into her heart.

Thank you Random House for sending me a copy of Up to This Pointe for review. This in no way affected my opinion.

This story is set in 2 areas one in San Francisco and then in Antarctica. The look back and then jumping forward made the story intriguing and fresh which I enjoyed. We were uncovering why her life course had taken a drastic change since Harper had her entire life scheduled and planned out. No deviations. Things however do not go as planned.

Harper's journey was captivating. We got a glimpse into her vulnerability when she had always been so focused, driven and determined. I usually like a strong female lead but it was nice to see she was strong but she had to work through issues as well. This story addressed so many issues young people face when entering into adulthood.

While following Harper's journey I thought I knew what would happen I have to say I did not see what goes down in Antarctica coming at all. You will have to read it to find out what I am talking about. I knocked me for a compete loop.

Jennifer Longo gives you a real and refreshing contemporary that will take you along for the journey of self discovery.
