Fairest (The Lunar Chronicles #3.5) by Marissa Meyer ~ Review by Fallon

5 Out of 5 Stars

222 pages
Published January 27th 2015
by Feiwel & Friends
ISBN13: 9781250060556
Review Source: Bought Hardcover

Author Description:

In this stunning bridge book between Cress and Winter in the bestselling Lunar Chronicles, Queen Levana’s story is finally told.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Who is the fairest of them all?

Fans of the Lunar Chronicles know Queen Levana as a ruler who uses her “glamour” to gain power. But long before she crossed paths with Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress, Levana lived a very different story – a story that has never been told . . . until now.

Marissa Meyer spins yet another unforgettable tale about love and war, deceit and death. This extraordinary book includes full-color art and an excerpt from Winter, the next book in the Lunar Chronicles series.

Fallon's Review:

Fairest was absolutely enchanting. We get to know the evil Queen Levana, but what made her that way? There is so much more to this tyrants beginnings and hunger for power. The lengths she goes to will turn your insides. The horrors she has endured will grip at you. We also get the origins behind Winter and Cinders beginnings.

Do not get to close to the fire cause Levana will start an inferno if you come between her and her happiness. She is one of the most complex characters that I have read and I am honestly still torn up in my feelings for her. Mirror, Mirror do not reveal the real me. Glamour is just an illusion.

This twisted and turned me all about. Marissa is a literary genius to take stories we all know and love and make them new and fresh. There are shocking moments you never see coming and she knows how to keep you on your toes. I adored Fairest and I am fangirling hard over this series. YAY I can not wait for Winter this year. This is a must read for all Lunatics and honestly if you have not read the series why not start here! I am giving Fairest 5 out of 5 Stars.

Excerpt:

COURTNEY DIAMOND

The fireworks started before either of them could say anything more, bursts of light shooting into the desert sky, bigger than any firework show Courtney had seen in Fairfield. It was impossible to ignore the electricity bouncing between the inches of space separating her and Brett, dancing across her skin with each boom overhead. She couldn’t stop glancing at him from the corner of her eye. He looked lost in thought, although sometimes she swore she caught him watching her, too. This went on for twenty minutes, and then came the finale—shot after shot of fireworks exploding, without a second’s break between them. Some sored into their air like comets and others spread like meteor showers, filling up miles of sky.
When it was over, Courtney was sitting so close to Brett that their arms were an inch from touching.
How did you like it?” he asked, not making an effort to move away.
I loved it,” she replied. “Thanks for bringing me.”
Her head felt fuzzy, and she pushed a strand of hair behind her ear, her arm brushing his. She stilled at the touch, and he looked at her with more intensity than he had the entire night.
Are you two ready to leave?” Dawn destroyed the moment, standing up and brushing invisible dust off her jeans.
Courtney jerked backward, torn out of her trance. If the others hadn’t been there, what would have happened between her and Brett? She’d never kissed a guy before, but from the way he was looking at her, she felt like he’d wanted to kiss her. And if he had, she wasn’t sure she would have stopped him.
She shook her head at the thought. Courtney had never broken a rule in her life.
Whatever had just occurred between her and Brett could never happen again.

Cover Reveal: Secret of the Seven by Lynn Lindquist

Secret of the Sevens
Release Date: 06/2015
Flux Publishing

Summary from Goodreads:

Everyone at Singer, a boarding school for underprivileged kids, knows the urban legend of the Society of Seven. Decades ago, the original members of the secret guild for elite students murdered the school's founder and then perished in the fire they lit to hide the evidence. Or so the story goes.

Talan Michaels doesn't care about Singer's past. He's too focused on his future and the fact that he'll be homeless after he graduates in May. To take his mind off it, he accepts a mysterious invitation to join a group calling itself the Sevens. He expects pranks, parties, and perks. Instead, he finds himself neck-deep in a conspiracy involving secret passages and cryptic riddles about the school's history. Even worse, he's now tangled in web of lies someone will kill to keep hidden.

About the Author

Lynn Lindquist lives in a suburb of Chicago with two overly-social sons and a mutt named Slugger who wisely hides under the bed most days. The hordes of teenagers that regularly frequent her house (think Panama City Beach during spring break) provide fodder for her young adult novels and growing anxiety disorder. Ever since her sons broke the Guinness Record for Largest-Rager-Thrown-While-a-Parent-Was-Out-for-the-Night, she enjoys spending her free time at home entertaining friends, cooking, reading, and writing. Thankfully, her favorite things in life are her sons, words, and kids, so she wouldn’t have it any other way.

She is represented by Katherine Boyle at Veritas Literary Agency.

I am a southern belle at heart with a crazy streak that desperately tries to escape at every opportunity. I love all things nostalgic, rustic, and quirky. I’ve been told I see the world through rose-colored glasses, but I prefer to think of them as kaleidoscope glasses – swirling and morphing reality into something I can digest (who hasn’t pretended those pasty lima beans were really kiwi strawberry jelly beans?).
When I’m not writing I’m making jewelry, painting, drinking sweet tea, watching the discovery channel, or going on random adventures in the mountains of North Carolina with my amazing husband.

Twist (Loop #2) by Karen Akins ~ ARC Review by Fallon

5 Out of 5 Stars

Twist (Loop #2)  by
336 pages
publication: March 31st 2015
by St. Martin's Griffin
ISBN13: 9781250031006
Review Source: ARC

The unbelievably thrilling sequel to the time-travel YA novelLoop.

Bree Bennis finally has it all—a non-comatose mother, an uber-hot (albeit anachronistic) boyfriend named Finn, and a newfound mission to protect the timeline from those who would skew it for their own gain. But when she leans over one day to smooch said boyfriend, her lips meet those of her arch-nemesis Wyck instead. The timeline has been altered, and Bree is caught in the crosshairs. But when she goes back to repair the damage, she is stopped by none other than her Future Self, who delivers an urgent message: Someone is kidnapping Shifters from the distant past. It’s up to Bree to stop them. But first, she has to figure out who…and why.

To follow the trail of chronocrumbs, Bree reluctantly accepts her new undercover gig as Wyck’s girlfriend. Everything goes spiffy until Finn shows up in the 23rd century on the eager arm of a gorgeous fellow Shifter. Blark. Even as Bree struggles with jealousy, she battles the nagging dread that Finn might be better off with someone less chronologically complicated. Her worst fear is confirmed when Finn becomes the kidnapper’s next victim. As Bree zeroes in on the culprit, they unravel her life one timeline-change at a time. She realizes that she alone has the power to save herself and everyone she loves. But to do that, she may lose Finn forever.
Thank you St. Martin's Griffin for the ARC for review. This in no way effected my review of Twist.

Bree is finally content. Her mother is safe and sound. Her boyfriend and her are traveling the time loops together. Everything seems perfect till one day on her and Finn's date at a movie she is kissing him and then the next minute she is kissing Wyck her enemy. Things get very twisted from here on out.

Twist was a fast paced mystery that slowly filled in the pieces to the puzzle. This book really was twisted and I enjoyed the entire ride. In Loop I enjoyed the story building up to this but I did not get the same emotion I did from Twist. This was fast paced with so much emotion and I devoured every moment.

Twist was full of lots of action that kept you gripping the edge of your seat. This book completely twisted my heart and emotions to the point of tears. I was so taken by this book and would highly recommend it. I also adored the witty banter throughout the book. If you loved Loop you will fangirl hard for Twist.

And the fifth grade.
In sixth, I misspelled "calendar" in the first round. It was all downhill after that.

I'm a huge Star Trek TNG fan. At one point, I could tell you the episode's plot and name the season in the first 3 minutes of viewing. I'm a little rusty now.
Our high school didn't have a prom queen. If they did, I would have been firmly not in the running. See reason above. And below.
I taught archery for two summers at camp. And yet am horrible at it. But I know how to fletch an arrow. Just sayin'. Katniss and me...bff.
