therapy hasn’t done squat for Gabe Jones. A thousand sketches of his fiancée
can’t bring his memory, or her, back to him. Nothing on Earth can. His past
lies in another dimension, a world just out of sight.
Another student on campus, Lea Huckley, unknowingly shares Gabe’s obsession
with the fourth dimension. The monsters from the other side attacked her
parents and fled, getting her folks locked up in the loony bin. Proving this
other world exists is the only way to free them. Lea and Gabe strike a deal to
help each other, and together they manage to open a door to the world of Gabe’s
true origin. She’d use him for proof—if she didn’t already care too much.
While Gabe tries to reconcile his feelings for Lea and his rediscovered
memories of his fiancée, a much more sinister plot unravels. He uncovers his
history just in time to become the unwilling lynchpin in a conspiracy to start
a war. His memory holds the secret to the final riddle the would-be conqueror
needs to get the upper hand. Gabe must protect the riddle at all costs, even if
that means leaving Earth, and Lea, behind forever.

Have you heard the news that there's going to be a sequel to An Ember in the Ashes? We're so excited!
This book is amazing and I can't wait to see what happens to the characters in the second book. So today I'm going to make my top 3 predictions of what will happen in the sequel. Of course they may be way off but this will be fun!
Here we go!
Note that there may be some spoilers of the first book. If you have not read the book just skim through the gifs.
Elias- Our hero
Recap of first book: Elias is a student at Blackcliff, a graduation away from being a Mask. But he was given Trials to see if he was fit to be Emperor. He failed and was almost killed by is best friend Helene only to be saved by Laia. They are now on the run thanks to Helene letting them go. Wait what?
My predictions: Elias will go back with Laia and join the resistance. He will become a better warrior and tell them all the weaknesses regarding the Masks. He will have to face his friend Helene and the Emperor in an epic battle. I have high hopes these two get back together.
Laia: Our heroine
Recap of first book: Laia is a a young scholarwho was sent to infiltrate Blackcliff as a spy and work for The Commandment. She was seriously abused but gathered information for The Resistance. There is a love triangle going on between her, Elias and a resistance fighter namedKeenan.
My Predictions: Laia will become more of a warrior, training with Elias. They will go on missions together and maybe make out. But the connection between them isn't there and she runs back to Keenan. She will definitely be there to help Elias destroy the empire.
Helene: MY GIRL!
Recap of Book: Helene is such a badass warrior and friend to Elias. She may be thought of has the bad girl but I don't see it that way. She was raised to be this type of girl, to have little empathy for slaves or anything else. She and Elias both help each other through the Trials and save each other many times. Such heartwarming emotions! There's a spark between them but that darn Laia gets in the way!
My predictions: Ok, so Helene is now serving the Emperor. She commands the Masks and seeks out to destroy the resistances, even Elias. But she still harbors feelings for him and just can't kill him...again. She switch sides and helps Elias take down the Empire, They get married and have a bunch of warrior kids.
Ok, if there is a third book my predictions are totally wrong. They may still be wrong!
But this was totally fun. What do you predict the second book will be about?

The water is gone. The wars have begun. Clean water is a luxury most can no longer afford. Climate change, industrial sabotage, and greed have turned country against country as each one tries to provide for its citizens. Terrorist groups target desalinization plants and frustrated governments hunt those who work against them. Rationing, sequestering, and patrolling have become routine at a time when there are too many people and not enough resources. While the world around them disintegrates into chaos, Zach and Vivienne hope that their life in a government-run complex will retain some semblance of normalcy. But when attacks on their water supplies bring war to their sheltered community, they must accept their new fate. Stay and fight or flee and endure—it’s a difficult decision with lasting consequences. Will they choose what’s safe? Or will they choose to survive?

But Mia will discover more than the power of resilience. She’ll discover a secret Cole has held for years, one that will force them to confront the past and give new meaning to letting go, forgiveness, and a future worth fighting for.
Tawney's Review:Return to me is a sweet love story of second chances. It's been a while since I found a book that brought on all the emotions.
I was hooked at the first page. Return to Me starts off with Cole fighting for his life in Iraq.
His unit just got blown up and he is the only survivor. The last thing he thinks of before falling unconscious is his lost love, a girl named Mia. Due to his Iraq deployment he's been very difficult because of his PSD. He doesn't want to get better. He's locked himself away in his house and doesn't want any help. Enter Mia..
Mia needs money to help support her younger sister so she takes on the job of helping Cole. And here is where the drama unfolds. We find out that Cole and Mia met at Cole's house in the summer as teenagers. They fell in love but because they came from two different worlds, Mia's mother worked for Cole's parents, their love ended with their hearts' broken.
Both Cole and Mia are wonderful characters. It breaks my heart to see Cole go through his guilt. Moran did a wonderful job at describing and showing survivor's guilt.
I loved how the story flashed from present to past, where we can see Mia and Cole's first meeting, their love start to blossom and unravel. This helped make me fall even more in love with them! Usually in some stories flashbacks tends to drag but it didnt in this book. I wanted those flashbacks. I wanted to see their love story and what happened. They had a connection and I yearned for them to get back together and have their happy ever after.
I never really was interested in second chance love stories, because I never really believed in it. This book makes me believe. The sacrifices people take for love is strong. That was evident for Mia and Cole.
Return to Me was a sweet and emotional romance that finally gave me the romance I yearned for! Moran did a wonderful job developing the characters and bringing realistic conflicts to the story. I will definitely be reading more from her. Bring on the emotions!
This book also made me want to help our soldiers who suffer so much after coming home from war. My Dad is a war vet and I know other veterans so maybe I will reach out to an organization to help out. Any ideas?
A copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.
