Goodreads Description:

Sixteen-year-old Elli was a small child when the Elders of Kupari chose her to succeed the Valtia, the queen who wields infinitely powerful ice and fire magic. Since then, Elli has lived in the temple, surrounded by luxury and tutored by magical priests, as she prepares for the day when the Valtia perishes and the magic finds a new home in her. Elli is destined to be the most powerful Valtia to ever rule.

But when the queen dies defending the kingdom from invading warriors, the magic doesn’t enter Elli. It’s nowhere to be found.

Disgraced, Elli flees to the outlands, the home of banished criminals—some who would love to see the temple burn with all its priests inside. As she finds her footing in this new world, Elli uncovers devastating new information about the Kupari magic, those who wield it, and the prophecy that foretold her destiny. Torn between the love she has for her people and her growing loyalty to the banished, Elli struggles to understand the true role she was meant to play. But as war looms, she must align with the right side—before the kingdom and its magic are completely destroyed.

Review:

Thank you so much Simon and Schuster and Imprints for sending me a copy of The Impostor Queen for review. This in no way affected my opinion in my review.

I was so excited to read this book. I have to say it was even better then I ever could have imagined. This book is magical from beginning to end. From the details of the grueling schedule of the Queen and soon to be Queen. I loved the dynamic of unrest in the kingdom and the manipulation behind happenings inside the kingdom. The current Queen has the balance of ice and fire but slips of unbalance are wearing her down.

Elli is the future Queen. Born of magic. Copper has affected their people and some are born with the perfect elemental balance of Fire and Ice. Elli is believed to be one of these select few. She is suppose to be the most powerful Queen that has ever ruled until things go horribly wrong and she runs for her life beyond the gates.

She soon encounters Oskar a hard working hunter who supports his tribe. He has secrets he is keeping and so does she. Oskar is a protector and Elli is under his protection. Will her secrets destroy everything they have built and fight to protect.

Impostor Queen was unique and took elemental and high fantasy to a new level. I loved the political unrest that kept the pace going throughout. Through the pages you take a journey with Elli a girl who has been told who to be her entire life but grows and learns to be the person her kingdom will need. I am so in love with this book and can not wait for this series to continue. This is a must read!

Link to Review: Until we Meet Again

They exist in two different centuries, but their love defies time
Cassandra craves drama and adventure, so the last thing she wants is to spend her summer marooned with her mother and stepfather in a snooty Massachusetts shore town. But when a dreamy stranger shows up on their private beach claiming it's his own—and that the year is 1925—she is swept into a mystery a hundred years in the making.
As she searches for answers in the present, Cassandra discovers a truth that puts their growing love—and Lawrence's life—into jeopardy. Desperate to save him, Cassandra must find a way to change history…or risk losing Lawrence forever.

Interview with Renee Collins

1) did you have to do any research while writing Until we Meet Again?

I did! I had to do quite a bit of research into the language and slang spoken by Americans in the 1920’s. I needed to make sure the chapters in Lawrence’s viewpoint were as authentic as possible.

2) What was your favorite read in 2015?

I read so many great books. It’s hard to pick! But I always love Kasie West books and The Fill-In Boyfriend did not disappoint.

3) What was your favorite scene to write?

I loved writing the scene where Lawrence and Cassandra spend the whole night together on the beach. With all the intense scenes and scenes unraveling the mystery, it was nice to write one that was purely romantic. What can I say, I’m a sucker for love scenes.

4) What is your next project going to be and is Until We Meet Again a standalone?

Until We Meet Again is a stand alone novel. But I am working on a new stand alone novel, also a love story, that will hopefully be coming out with Sourcebooks next year!

5) At what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?

I’ve always been a writer. I filled notebooks with stories and poetry. Though it wasn’t until around eight years ago that I decided to write a full novel and try to get it published.

6) Are you a plotter or a pantser?

Definitely a plotter. I usually write out a sparse outline before I can even put one word on paper. And then, as I write, I usually make out a detailed outline of scenes that are coming up.

7) Who's writing most inspires you?

Many authors inspire me. I dream of crafting exquisite prose, like F. Scott Fitzgerald. I want a plot that keeps people completely hooked, like George R.R. Martin. And I’d love to bring characters to life that people love fiercely, like J.K. Rowling.

8) What is the one place in the world you most want to visit?

I’m a quarter Arab, so I’d love to visit the Middle East and explore my roots.

9) What TV show is a must for you to watch? (for example I can not miss Once Upon a Time)

Game of Thrones. Hands down!

10) Who is the one Author you would love to meet and maybe fangirl over?

Speaking of Game of Thrones, George R.R. Martin. And I actually had the chance to live that dream at WorldCon 2015. I met him at a small private party. I managed to keep it together pretty well, but then, as he left the party, he walked by and gave my arm a friendly little squeeze, thanking us all for coming. Flustered and thrilled, I blurted out, “Thank YOU for coming! You’re the coolest!” He gave an amused chuckle and walked away, leaving me to smack my forehead and laugh at myself.

About Renee:

I'm a YA writer who loves historical settings, magic, and semi-tragic romance. I'm represented by the amazing Mollie Glick of Foundry Literary + Media.

The barrier protects Santarem from those Keepers who might try to take power over mere humans…Keepers who are determined to stop Johanna and seize the wall’s power for themselves.

And they’re not the only ones. As the duchys of Santarem descend into war over the throne, Johanna relies more than ever on the advice of her handsome companion, Lord Rafael DeSilva. But Rafi is a duke too, and his people come first. As their friendship progresses into the beginnings of a tender relationship, Johanna must wonder: is Rafi looking out for her happiness, or does he want the throne for himself?
