Synopsis:

After growing up on a farm in Virginia, Walthingham Hall in England seems like another world to sixteen-year-old Katherine Randolph. Her new life, filled with the splendor of upper-class England in the 1820s, is shattered when her brother mysteriously drowns. Katherine is expected to observe the mourning customs and get on with her life, but she can't accept that her brother's death was an accident.

A bitter poacher prowls the estate, and strange visitors threaten the occupants of the house. There's a rumor, too, that a wild animal stalks the woods of Walthingham. Can Katherine retain her sanity long enough to find out the truth? Or will her brother's killer claim her life, too?

Review:

Thank you Fierce Reads for sending me an arc of The Gilded Cage. This in no way affected my opinion.

I had been in a reading slump until I picked up The Gilded Cage and I flew through the pages. This books pacing was spot on and was like a breath of fresh air. This book has a mash up feel of Sherlock Holmes and Pride and Prejudice. There is rumors of a beast that wonders the woods on the property. Someone turns up dead and Katherine is determined to get to the bottom of the death. She is going to prove it was not an accident like everyone else believes.

The Victorian romantic element gave you that olden day movie feel while the mystery made it so easy to not want to put the book down even for a moment. I am not a huge fan of historical reads but this one spoke to me and I am so glad it did because I will be keeping this book on my bookshelf library.

This is a must read whether you are a fan of historical fiction or not. It is such a great book.
