Romance, intrigue, and plenty of action are woven into a rich and suspenseful narrative in this powerful YA fantasy. The mixed-race heroine Myra is a Flickerkin and can flicker (become invisible) at will. She hasn’t cultivated or revealed this ability, since Flickerkin are persecuted as potential criminals and spies. When invisible people become tricksters and then murderers, Myra’s Flickerkin heritage becomes a deadly secret, putting her relationship with the leader’s son—and her own life—in jeopardy. Loyalties shift and difficult choices are made before Myra understands who she wants to be.

Thank you HMH for sending me a copy of Flicker and Mist for consideration. This in no way affected my opinion.

Flicker and Mist was so good and I am really hoping there will be more. This story is about two races divided. One came a long time ago and had relations on the Plateau. The decendants are Flickerkin and can become invisible. They also with practice can change from invisible to mist. This makes the town uneasy and all Flickerkin are outlawed but some are in hiding.

Myra when little Flickered she has never done it again so her mother and father hope it was only an anomoly. She is also dating the Sheriffs son and things become complicated when her mother fails a test to see if she is a Flickerkin. Myra may be a Flickerkin but she has been raised as a Plat and feels that those are her people and are the people she cares for.

A war is brewing and Myra is soon put in the middle. I love the humanity that Myra feels. She does not want anyone she cares about to be hurt but more then that she does not believe in the war or the divide that has come between these two races.

Flicker and Mist was such a unique story that was very fast paced. A very thought provoking read. Myra soon learns that she is more then her DNA . I can not wait to read more from Mary G. Thompson.
