Catherine may be one of the most desired girls in Wonderland and a favorite of the unmarried King, but her interests lie elsewhere. A talented baker, she wants to open a shop and create delectable pastries. But for her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for a woman who could be a queen.

At a royal ball where Cath is expected to receive the King’s marriage proposal, she meets handsome and mysterious Jest. For the first time, she feels the pull of true attraction. At the risk of offending the King and infuriating her parents, she and Jest enter into a secret courtship.

Cath is determined to choose her own destiny. But in a land thriving with magic, madness, and monsters, fate has other plans.

Thank you Fierce Reads for providing me a copy of Heartless for review. This in no way affected my opinion.

I love Marissa Meyer's writing and her twists and takes on fairy-tales. I do have mixed feelings about Heartless. I love the tone of the story and how it literally felt like it meshed perfectly with Lewis Carroll's writing. I also loved the twists and turns and the darker nature the end took.

My biggest hang up was the slow pacing in the beginning and the middle. I however adored the character development and the fact that Marissa tied in all the characters we love in such a fantastic way. Cheshire is one of my all time favorite characters and he kicks off the book from the very beginning. I also love the creepy girls towards the end. They were the right dash of dark and different and new that the story needed.

I may have had 1 hang up in the pacing but that did not stop this story for being a unique story that every Alice fan should add to their shelves. I will never look at the Queen the same again. Marissa gave her the depth that we never knew we were missing till now.
