I knew I had to read The Valiant since the moment I heard the main characters name was Fallon. I was so excited to finally have my name as a main character. Plus the synopsis sounded amazing. Strong female warriors and I knew this book would be amazing! I am so happy to be a part of the tour and share my love of this book with all of you.

Lost to history, the story of the female gladiator has never been told. Until now.
Fallon is the daughter of a proud Celtic king and the younger sister of the legendary warrior Sorcha. When Fallon was just a child, Sorcha was killed while defending their home from the armies of Julius Caesar.
On the eve of her seventeenth birthday, Fallon is excited to follow in her sister's footsteps and earn her place in her father's war band. She never gets the chance.
Fallon is captured by ruthless brigands who sell her to an elite training school for female gladiators owned by none other than Julius Caesar himself. In a cruel twist of fate, the man who destroyed Fallon s family might be her only hope of survival.
Now, Fallon must overcome vicious rivalries, deadly fights in and out of the arena, and perhaps the most dangerous threat of all: her irresistible feelings for Cai, a young Roman soldier and her sworn enemy.
"All gladius types appear to have been suitable for cutting and chopping as well as thrusting." ~ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gladius
While the Gladius may not have been Fallon's weapon of choice it was used and mentioned more times then the other weapons. It is small and does the job. It is also the most common weapon used in movies and other reenactments for Gladiators. While doing research on this weapon I found out their were many types of Gladius modified for the era throughout history.
Thank you Penguin Teen for sending me an arc of The Valiant for review. This in no way affected my opinion.
I was so excited to have the name Fallon in a book. I am not going to lie it took a little getting used to. This book breaks your heart right off the bat. But I loved following Fallon's fierce journey of survival in the unknown. She learns to make something of the life she is thrown into and I loved that Lesley played on the doubt and internal struggles someone would face in her situation. The pacing at the beginning was a little slower but it was building to the amazing finale.
This book had heartbreak, romance, action, and twists and turns. I love a fierce female and this story is for anyone who love chicks that can kick butt and take names. I am highly recommending this!
