Lada Dracul has no allies. No throne. All she has is what she’s always had: herself. After failing to secure the Wallachian throne, Lada is out to punish anyone who dares to cross her blood-strewn path. Filled with a white-hot rage, she storms the countryside with her men, accompanied by her childhood friend Bogdan, terrorizing the land. But brute force isn’t getting Lada what she wants. And thinking of Mehmed brings little comfort to her thorny heart. There’s no time to wonder whether he still thinks about her, even loves her. She left him before he could leave her.

What Lada needs is her younger brother Radu’s subtlety and skill. But Mehmed has sent him to Constantinople—and it’s no diplomatic mission. Mehmed wants control of the city, and Radu has earned an unwanted place as a double-crossing spy behind enemy lines. Radu longs for his sister’s fierce confidence—but for the first time in his life, he rejects her unexpected plea for help. Torn between loyalties to faith, to the Ottomans, and to Mehmed, he knows he owes Lada nothing. If she dies, he could never forgive himself—but if he fails in Constantinople, will Mehmed ever forgive him?

As nations fall around them, the Dracul siblings must decide: what will they sacrifice to fulfill their destinies? Empires will topple, thrones will be won . . . and souls will be lost.

Thank you Random House and American Library Association for providing me a copy of Now I Rise. This in no way affected my opinion.

"Where there was fear, there was power."

In dual POV's we dive right back into Lada and Radu's world. Lada is determined to have her throne and nothing will get in her way. Radu is determined to stay at Mehmed side. With Radu I loved seeing and experiencing his vulnerability and internal struggles he faces. Lada is such a fierce female. I love her character. She does not let the men in power even the ones she cares about dictate her course in life.

"Bogdan, when have I ever been a lady?"
"You have always been a lady to me."
"Maybe you do not know me very well after all."
"I know you."

Kiersten is a master at creating layers of feeling and emotions under the surface that she lets the reader feel. I felt so much for the characters created in this world. Sometimes I did want to smack Radu. After a while I wanted him to be the confident and handsome person the world saw him as. I wanted him to realize how special he was and to stop dwelling on what he could not have and embrace his awesomeness and what he had to offer. I however loved witnessing him find his place finally. He finally discovers his feelings and clarity on what will and what will not be.

"Secrets gave everything more power, more potential for devastation and destruction."

One of my favorite supporting characters is Nazira. She is so supportive, smart, understanding and manipulative. She knows how to get what she wants and needs. In a world of secrets and deceit she is able to navigate and succeed. I am always routing for Lada and Radu's relationship. I loved their relationship from the very beginning of And I Darken. I love how even though they do not always see it and their relationship is complicated they still miss and need each other.

This is a must read series. I am giving Now I Rise 4.5 starts out of 5 stars.
