The Broken Vow (Spill Zone #2)
by Scott Westerfeld, Alex Puvilland (Artist)
Publish Date: July 10, 2018
Publisher: First Second
Hardcover: 240 pages

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Synopsis:

All hell breaks loose in the second volume of New York Times–bestselling author Scott Westerfeld's visionary graphic novel duology.

Three years ago an event destroyed the small city of Poughkeepsie, forever changing reality within its borders. Strange manifestations and lethal dangers now await anyone who enters the Spill Zone. Addison got close enough to the Spill Zone to touch it, literally. She survived the encounter, but came back changed.

It turns out she's not alone. North Korea has its own Spill Zone, and a young man named Don Jae is the only one who made it out alive. Alive, but changed. Now Addison, Don Jae, and, curiously, a rag doll named Vespertine, share an unholy bond and uncanny powers.

From Scott Westerfeld, the inspired imagination behind the New York Times bestsellers Uglies and Leviathan, comes The Broken Vow, the second volume of our highly anticipated new graphic novel series.

Review:

Thank you First Second for sending me copies of Spill Zone series for review. This in no way affected my opinion.

I love Scott's writing. You can have an amazing artist which Alex is but if the writing is choppy then the story is not gripping. In the Spill Zone series you have vibrant and gripping visual imagery as well as writing that takes you on a journey.

Book 1 left off with a cliffhanger and I was like ummm I definitely need more. Book 2 is wrapped up perfectly and this series has non-stop action that has you tearing through the pages. Addison is loyal to her sister and likes to push the boundaries wondering into the spill zone to capture pictures. Her sister is changed from that day and I love the fact her sister is woven into this story more. We find out what the Spill Zone is and why this happened to the world and how.

I am loving the new craze of graphic novels. This is perfect for reluctant readers. This book was perfect for teens and older readers. Action, thriller will have you needing to read until the very last page. Warning: for younger readers there is some language in this series. I am giving The Spill Zone and The Broken Vow both 4 out of 5 stars.
